WORDS ARE VERY IMPORTANT IN LANGUAGE LEARNING As THEY ARE THE BASIC UNITS OF A LANGUAGE.

WHEN FINDING NEW WORDS IN A TEXT, TRY TO GUESS THEIR MEANING BEFORE LOOKING THEM UP IN THE DICTIONARY - OUR BRAIN MEMORIZES THE NEW INFORMATION EASIER THIS WAY.

USE A MONOLINGUAL DICTIONARY - SPICE UP LEARNING WORDS BY USING A MONOLINGUAL DICTIONARY. TRY ONLINE VERSIONS AS WELL.

  MAKE FLASHCARDS.

WRITE DOWN WORDS ON SEPARATE CARDS, WRITE THEIR MEANING OR DRAW THEIR IMAGE ON THE OTHER SIDE. COLLECT YOUR CARDS, ADD NEW ONES, BE CREATIVE, JUST PLAY.

  MAKE MIND MAPS.

COLLECT THE WORDS INTO GROUPS BY DRAWING MIND MAP DIAGRAMS:

      * SELECT THE TOPIC (e.g. FRUITS, SPORTS, DAILY ROUTINE, GREETINGS etc.).
      * WRITE THE TOPIC INTO THE CENTER.
      * COLLECT THE WORDS AND EXPRESSIONS IN GROUPS.
      * CONNECT THE GROUPS WITH LINES.
      * USE DIFFERENT COLORS.
      * DRAW PICTURES, IMAGES, SYMBOLS FOR EASIER VISUALIZATION.

 PLAY WORD GAMES!

8. USE YOUR VOCABULARY, HAVE FUN TRYING DIFFERENT WORD GAMES EITHER ON YOUR OWN:
CROSSWORD PUZZLES, WORD SEARCH, HANGMAN etc...
...OR WITH FRIENDS
SCRABBLE, ACTIVITY, PICTIONARY, etc...
ENJOY!

  FOCUS ON KEY WORDS.

The English language has 400,000 words, 240,000 are main words, but most people use 20,000 words. It was discovered that of those 20,000 words, relatively few made up a large percentage of all we use each day. If we learn these "Key Words" first, it would be easier to read, write and spell.

WHEN ENCOUNTERING A NEW WORD, TAKE A LOOK AT ITS STRUCTURE. MANY WORDS CONSIST OF PREFIXES AND SUFFIXES, AND AN UNDERSTANDING OF THIS PART OF SPEECH IS ADVANTAGEOUS. STUDYING THESE AFFIXES CAN HELP YOU TO UNDERSTAND CONJUGATION AND STRUCTURE, AND MAKE EDUCATED GUESSES WHEN ENCOUNTERING NEW VOCABULARY.

 MAKE WORD CLUSTERS!

WHEN LEARNING NEW WORDS FOCUS ON A SINGLE THEME, e.g. FOOD, SPORT, FASHION...
THE MIND NATURALLY CLUSTERS CONNECTED WORDS TOGETHER, SO LEARNING WORD GROUPS OF A GIVEN TOPIC WORKS IN TUNE WITH THE BRAIN'S NATURAL SYSTEM FOR CLASSIFYING INFORMATION.
